Project: ( School assignment ) Create a full page spread magazine ad for a perfume, incorporating the theme: a (not too obvious) combination of Art Deco, Glamour and Crime. Model and product photography and retouch.
DEtails: A young confident and elegant (and somewhat rebellious) woman is admiring her grafitti work that you see behind the perfume bottle. The background of both photos are kept simple to not distract from what is important: the product and the feeling of confidence the woman gets from using the perfume. The grafitti is an art deco inspired pattern that is also represented in the windows behind the model. She is taking the old and classic and making it modern and young.
The grafitti was done with actual spray paint on a piece of wood and placed as the backdrop in the photo while the window behind the model was created digitally.
The retouch on the model included: removing imperfections, evening the skin on the legs, filling in the gap in her hair, giving her some more makeup, removing wrinkles in the clothes and doing some generell clean-up. For the product photo the retouch consisted mostly of cleaning the tabletop and removing fingerprints on the bottle. I also had to adjust the pattern in the background a bit.
So, to specify the theme. The Art Deco is in the pattern, the glamour is in the modells visuals and the pink color and the crime is her rebellious spray painting (as grafitti has a kind of bad reputations and a strong connection to petty crime).
